No Excuses!

You now have one month to plan before 2011 begins. NOW is the time to be self-disciplined and put together your goals and plans to make 2011 a phenomenal year in every area of life.

Author Brian Tracy has a new book out that addresses this very issue of self-discipline called No Excuses: The Power of Self-Discipline.

Mr. Tracy says: "You don't need to have been born under a lucky star, or with incredible wealth, or with terrific contacts and connections, or even special skills...but what you do need to succeed in any of your life goals is self-discipline. Unfortunately, most people give in to the two worst enemies of success: they take the path of least resistance (in other words, they're lazy) and or they want immediate gratification: they don't consider the long-term consequences of the actions they take today."

Fortunately for you, you have the QC to help you implement this kind of intense self discipline.

Work Life Plan

Idea number 9 on the Work Life section of the QC Instructions says Work on my business plan for one hour each week. Now that the end of 2010 is almost here, it is a great time to work on your 2011 business plan.

Why not work on it one hour each week for the next 4 weeks by putting it on your QC? By the time January 1st 2011 arrives, you can hit the ground running!

Home Building (Your Love Life)

Did you nod and brush by your spouse in the hallway this morning? Do you pay more attention to the TV, the internet, or video games than you do to your spouse? Well, if this is your marriage, or the marriage of someone you know well, just watch for the crash... it is coming.

While there are no "perfect" marriages or families, there are plenty of Christian husbands and wives who have made the concious decision to live a joyful Love Life together. Just like any area of life, a joyful Love Life is accomplished one very small step at a time.

One of the recommendations we have in the Quarterly Compass instructions is "Give your spouse a full frontal hug every day". It is really hard to avoid someone when you are giving them a massive hug. It also makes the other person feel extremely important and special to you. Give it a shot!

Talk To The Creator Of The Universe

Dealing well with God may be the single most important thing you do.

Are you having a daily Quiet Time with your Creator? The access we have to the most powerful being in the universe is astounding, and He is available to you at any moment.

Having a daily, early morning time to pray, read the Bible, and focus your mind outside of yourself will draw you near to His purpose for your life. If you are a member of the Quarterly Compass, you can easily put this on your dashboard as a goal, and monitor your progress.

If a daily Quiet Time is already a goal of yours, are you actually following through?.....Just checking...

QC Votes!

The Quarterly Compass is all about accountability; holding yourself accountable for the promises you make, having someone else watching and encouraging you, and actually following through on your goals.

Our country's founders realized this fact and implemented accountability into the very core of our government back in the 1700s! I believe, due to this very fact, that United States citizens live in the greatest country the planet has ever known. On Tuesday, November 2, 2010 we have the opportunity to VOTE and hold our own government officials (senators, congressmen, governors, etc) accountable for the things they are doing. Elections have consequences and we must not let the priciples of "Life, Liberty, and the Persuit of Happiness" be stolen from us by irresponsible politicians.

Please take this seriously and go out and vote for the candidate that you believe will keep this nation the greatest nation on earth, as established by our founders!

QC Financial Life

I am reading an excellent new book by Dr. David Jeremiah called The Coming Economic Armageddon regarding the falling US economy, and the "global economy". In it, he says of the debt virus; "the most noticeable evidence of financial contagion is the continued borrowing of money by governments for the purpose of living beyond their means."

I believe the US can come back from the brink of this economic disaster, just as I believe each one of us can recover from financial disaster. QC members can use The QC to track financial goals, and can even help create habits allowing them to live within their means.

If you are a member, why not add to your Financial Life goals: "Review my family budget with my spouse 1 x per week"?

Sun Stand Still

Wow, I saw a sermon preached by pastor and author Steven Furtick this week. In his book Sun Stand Still his challenge was "If the size of your vision for your life isn't intimidating to you, there's a good chance it is insulting to God." He was preaching from Joshua 10.

Are you being challenged to do great things for God by those close to you, by your vision for yourself? If you are not, you will want to read this book, then log in to your QC and set some audacious goals! Click here to go to the link to watch this sermon.

Start Of A New Quarter 2010

Welcome to the New Quarter! Now that the 4th Quarter of 2010 has started, it is a great time to start accomplishing your 4th Quarter QC goals.

Sergio Zyman was once the Chief Marketing Officer for Coca-Cola. In his book The End Of Marketing As We Know It, Zyman says "...it is much more efficient to build relationships with consumers and then work on getting the people who know you to buy more stuff than it is to go out and find new consumers."

Why not ask yourself how this may apply to your life, your family, your business, your relationships? Then why no act on it by setting up a QC goal like "Focus on one current relationship this week" ?

Boundaries Create Progress, Not Limitations...

In their bestselling book Boundaries, (Zondervan, 1992) Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend explain that "Christians often focus so much on being loving and giving that they forget their own limitations." The authors go on to say that "Boundaries are personal property lines that define who you are and who you are not, and influence all areas of your life."

When we focus on a daily basis on "all areas" of our lives, we have the unique ability to know that boundaries are being set, and being adhered to. The Quarterly Compass allows members to focus on specific areas of life (family, love life, financial, spiritual, etc.), record results, and show them online to an accountability partner. This allows FULL DISCLOSURE to another person in every area of life; a key ingredient in successful living and making huge progress in leadership.

Do You Have An Encourager?

My father-in-law is one of the most skilled men I know at "building others up". In this photo he can be seen encouraging and "building up" my son, who in turn LOVES to spend time with his grandpa.

Do you have someone who does that for you? Are you doing this for someone else? If not, it is time to get it done both ways. If you want to make progress at the core of your own life, you need a person who truly encourages you. If you want to build a positive core in someone else, you need to start down the road of building others up.

Read about this important area of your life check out the Importance of Accountability at the QC site. Additionally, the Bible has some serious words about this attitude.

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." (Ephesians 4:29).

Do You Live In A Zone Of Self Deception?

When reality comes into conflict with our cherished beliefs, we humans experience a train wreck, often called "cognitive dissonance" by the shrinks. This is conflict is never resolved until either reality, or our cherished belief, WINS and we live in the one that wins (NOTE: sometimes the wrong one wins). The neat thing is that, once we discover our cherished belief was unhealthy or plain wrong, we can change the reality for ourselves by getting focused on the areas of our lives where we are deceiving ourselves. We can change directions. Using the Quarterly Compass, and having an accountability partner who will tell you the TRUTH, can catapult you out of that zone of self deception and on to great success. Check out this video about areas of life where we fall into this zone...

Seven Major Areas Of Life

There is an old saying that goes like this, “The path of least resistance makes rivers, and men, crooked”. You only have to look at an ariel photo of a large river to see that truth in action. The Quarterly Compass is an accountability tool designed to be highly effective for keeping people like you and me committed to promises made in all seven major areas of our lives (explained in this video). Listen in on what it's like taking the straight, difficult, but honest path!

Habits and Character

I was listening to a CD by author and Pastor Rick Warren who said "Our character is the sum of our habits." Now that's a short and sweet statement that packs a huge wallop! Think about it for a few moments....
I also once heard that "Character is found in a person's checkbook and calendar." How do you spend your money and how do you spend your time?
Do you have some great habits that are contributing great things to your life and to the lives of those around you? Or do you have some bad habits you need to get rid of?
Daily focus on all 7 major areas of life using the Quarterly Compass can propel you toward a positive and rich character. Bumbling through each day with no plan or goal or objective is a certain path to ruination of your character. As Proverbs 20:4 states, "A sluggard does not plow in season; so at harvest time he looks but finds nothing."

Alcatraz: Total Accountability

Last week I went on a mission trip with my church to the San Francisco Bay area of California. On our last full day there, we took time to go to Alcatraz Island where I learned about the men (federal prisoners) who went from lives of crime where they had NO accountability, to having TOTAL accountability. This was a maximum security federal prison island where there were six headcounts a day.
After walking through the tiny cells, it is clear that there is a huge difference between "security" and "freedom". When we are free we are able to make the choice to be free or secure and the choice to have accountability in our lives or not. But when we are secure (locked up) we have NO choice, and others keep us accountable against our will which keeps us very focused on one thing.
My experience is, when you freely choose serious accountability in your life, you get very focused on improving, and there is little time to get into trouble. The Quarterly Compass will get you that focused without the jail cell.

The Richest Man Who Ever Lived

As you know, a goal I always strongly suggest is to read a book, or listen to a podcast that will improve you in one of your 7 Major Areas Of Life. This week I am on vacation and reading an amazing book called The Richest Man Who Ever Lived by Steven K. Scott. In the book Scott dives into King Solomon's wisdom and his secrets to success, wealth, and happiness. This is a must read for anyone desiring extreme success in any major area of life. If you are a Quarterly Compass member, why not make this one of your goals to reach in your Physical/Mental Life? Have a great week....

Actually MEETING for accountability

In the QC instructions under Work Life suggestion number 12 says, Meet with my accountability partner for 15 minutes each week. As I have mentioned, and as just about every success speaker emphasizes, ACCOUNTABILITY is the key to reaching your goals. You cannot go it alone. I am personally taking 1.5 HOURS each week to meet with my accountability partner! This time is absolutely crucial to my progress...
Have you met with your accountability partner this week? Is it on your Quarterly Compass?

New QC Quarter Here

Welcome to the New Quarter! Now that the 3rd Quarter of 2010 has started, it's a great time to start accomplishing your 3rd Quarter QC goals. I'm reading a great book that's helping me to pay attention to how I connect with people while interacting with them. The book is called Everyone Communicates, Few Connect by John Maxwell. Why not set a QC goal this quarter to read a positive book like this one, or listen to an uplifting podcast, for 1 hour 3 times a week?
