Last week I went on a mission trip with my church to the San Francisco Bay area of California. On our last full day there, we took time to go to Alcatraz Island where I learned about the men (federal prisoners) who went from lives of crime where they had NO accountability, to having TOTAL accountability. This was a maximum security federal prison island where there were six headcounts a day. After walking through the tiny cells, it is clear that there is a huge difference between "security" and "freedom". When we are free we are able to make the choice to be free or secure and the choice to have accountability in our lives or not. But when we are secure (locked up) we have NO choice, and others keep us accountable against our will which keeps us very focused on one thing.
My experience is, when you freely choose serious accountability in your life, you get very focused on improving, and there is little time to get into trouble. The Quarterly Compass will get you that focused without the jail cell.
